Irina Gonzalez

I'm a food & health staff writer for Mamás Latinas, with a blog devoted to Healthy Latin Food and maintaining a 100lb weight loss.

Creative from a young age, I fell in love with writing early on and have never looked back. My education took me from journalism classes at NYU to an internship at Latina magazine, working in magazines and finally to MamásLatinas. Here I write about anything and everything but I'm a passionate foodie devoted to healthy eating and learning to enjoy exercise as I work on maintaining a 100lb weight loss.

I know I'm Latina when...

I wear bright, vibrant colors in any season, for any occasion. Oh, and lots of animal print!

Plus, according to a study, strangers can actually correctly judge your personal characteristics JUST by looking at your shoes! In fact, people can guess 90 percent of your personality based on the shoes you're wearing. Crazy, isn't it?

The last time I asked my hair for advice on a hairstyle I was considering, she said, "What does it matter? You'll change it in two months, anyway."

It's a funny statement, mostly because it's true. Today my hair is barely below my earlobes and colored red, whereas a month and a half ago it was halfway down my back and almost black. I do so much damage to it that some days I wake up and all I see is a frizzy, dry, brittle mess. But I've figured out the absolute best way to repair damaged hair overnight.
