It took me losing my curls to severe heat-damage for me to finally appreciate them. Now that I have them back I rock my natural rizos as often as possible, even if it means having at least four bad hair days a week. But just because I'm embracing my curly hair doesn't mean they don't come with a whole set of problems!
I've lost a lot of hair over the past year or so. Let's just say my strands have been through hell and back. To cut a VERY long story short, I basically allowed a stylist to pass a curling wand on my still damp curls and it's been a nightmare since. My curls turned into lifeless, limpy waves from root to ends and for months I was finding matted clumps of hair in my shower drain. Right now my hair is still slowly recovering from all the damage, but I've finally manage to get the thinning to stop.
Is it weird that I'm kind of jealous of el Dia de los Muertos' Catrina's makeup skills? For a skeleton, the mujer has style. Well, at least the real life women who imitate her on the Day of the Dead do. I love how they let their imaginations run wild. Every year, their sugar skulls and Catrina masks become more over the top, and their trajes and hair are wilder and more beautiful. It's all so very beautiful, but also so very fleeting. It's too bad we can't always do our hair and makeup like La Catrina's every day of the year. Or can we?
People are always shocked when I tell them I haven't dyed my hair in over 10 years. I'm pretty drastic when it comes to my strands. All it took was one bad and brassy dye job to keep me away from hair color for good. But that's not exactly a practical option for most us, is it? Luckily, there are ways to stop hair color fading and trust me--it's possible!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, 2014 is definitely the year of the big butts. It's all anyone talks about lately, especially after Jennifer Lopez dropped her sexy new single "Booty" with Iggy Azaela. Don't get me started on Nicki Minaj's Anaconda video. It had enough twerking to last her a lifetime. But the big booty trend goes way beyond admiration and butt-shaking moves. These days women are paying thousands of dollars on butt enhancing surgeries because they want their butt to look just like Kim Kardashian's. No, I wish I were kidding!
I never thought I'd see the day when Beyonce would look less than perfect. The girl is gorgeous! She's practically capable of rocking any kind of hairstyle too. We've seen her in pixie cuts, bobs, long hair, short hair, straight hair, curly hair and it always works! But unfortunately, I can't say Bey has been working her latest do'. She showed off her new cropped, blunt bangs while out in Paris with Jay-Z and Blue Ivy and I have to say--it looked kind of crazy! Her bangs are SO short it looks like her daughter cut them for her!
I've never really celebrated el Dia de Los Muertos, but that's all about to change. Ever since I saw Fergie sporting a to-die-for Catrina costume last year, it's safe to say I've become completely obsessed. I've literally been flipping through hundreds of sugar skull makeup tutorials since April, and I'm nowhere near narrowing it down. But you really can't blame me. There are so many beautiful and unique looks to choose from. Mujeres the world over have come up with some seriously sick designs, all ranging from creatively creepy to ghoulish but gorgeous. And yet, despite their differences, they're all drop dead gorgeous! You really have to see them to believe 'em.Continue Reading >
