I know I shouldn't pick at my pimples, but I just can't help myself. What, am I supposed to just wait for the zit to just go away on its own? Pfft, I have zero patience or time for that. So I do what most of us ladies do: squeeze those little suckers into oblivion. However, doing so has left me with a sprinkling of acne scars that have now mixed in with my sun spots and freckles. Not fair, right? Well, if you ask Dr. Oz, I literally did it to myself. According to him, there's a much more effective means of getting rid of those ugly pink spots, and it won't literally scar you for life. Ay, hallelujah, right? Well, before you go celebrating I'm going to need you to brace yourself, chicas, because though the solution is effective, it ain't pretty.
I don't know what it is about all the parties around this time of the year, but I never seem to know what to wear or what to do with my hair. And not knowing what to do with my hair could be the biggest annoyance ever. Seriously, I can't function when my hair is a mess!
If YouTube existed when our mothers were growing up, I'm pretty sure most of them would have been successful beauty bloggers. Think about it. If your madre was anything like mine, chances are she never dreamed of spending her hard earned money on expensive beauty items from MAC or Sephora. 'Stas loca? No, our mothers--and their mothers before them--had a million beauty hacks up their sleeves, many of which required the use of cheapo, dollar store beauty products. And that's not even the best part! Aside from saving you time, money, and counter space, most of mami's beauty hacks produced better results than name brand items. Wow, I guess that means mami really does know best!
Though it's been used for centuries for both medicinal and aesthetic purposes, charcoal is now being heralded as the latest buzz-worthy beauty ingredient, popping up in acne-fighting face washes and masks, cleansing sponges, body bars, scalp-soothing shampoos, and cream eye liners. But don't go raiding your husband's BBQ stash in hopes of turning that unused charcoal into an at-home remedy!
What these products contain is activated coal, a form of carbon that's been processed and treated with oxygen at high temperatures to increase its adsorption. What the heck does that mean ayways?
You don't need a lot of time or money to get glowy skin, silky hair, or flawless nails. All you need is a little knowhow and an open mind. Personally, I'm pretty much always game to try just about any quick and inexpensive DIY beauty hack I can find on the web. Sure, some of my beauty experiments have been a little weird, but they were totally worth it.
Seriously, what does Jennifer Lopez do to get that 44-year-old face of hers always looking flawless? Well for starters, she takes REALLY good care of it!
But J.Lo's perfectly, glowy skin and sculpted cheeks bones go way beyond a committed skincare regimen and good genes. It's all in the highlighting and contouring chica!Continue Reading >
If there's one thing I LOVE about Dania Ramirez is how she's never afraid to sport bright and bold colors. Just a few weeks ago she was seen at an EXTRA interview in Los Angeles sporting a vibrant orange pout that made her look like some sort of Latina goddess. The rich color complemented her caramel skin tone and perfectly brightened her face. It also added this instant touch of glamour that made me want to run to the nearest Sephora and buy myself the same lipstick!Continue Reading >
I never have a clue what to do with my hair on rainy or humid days. It's the most frustrating thing ever. If I wear it straight it proofs and frizzes (so pointless!), but even my natural curls can't seem to cooperate with the rain. So many times what I wind up doing is just pulling my hair up into a messy bun. And when I say messy, I mean I look like I just stepped out of bed. Ugh! Is it even possible to look cute when it's yucky and humid out?Continue Reading >
I'll never forget the first time I shaved my legs. I was already 13 years old because my Dominican mom had this strange rule that I couldn't shave my legs until I officially hit puberty. By then all my friends from school were already rocking smooth, hairless legs while I (the only Latina in the group of coarse!) was sporting knee-length skirts that revealed all those embarrassing pelitos. Anyhow, I've been shaving my legs ever since--not waxing. Despite what some people might say, you can still get super smooth legs all with the help of a razor!Continue Reading >
I've been sort of obsessed with lip crayons lately, mostly because they're SO much fun! Not too sure what I'm talking about? Lip crayons are basically today's lipstick. It's a lip color that looks like an oversized Crayola and it's insanely easy to use. So easy in fact, a 2-year-old could probably apply this thing on with no problem and that's part of the reason why everyone's using them.Continue Reading >
