I don't know what's been going on with my combination skin, but I've been suffering from breakouts more often than usual. I've tried everything under the sun from fancy acne treatments to DIY remedies, but nothing was working until I finally took advice from a good friend of mine. My friend Juwon suffers from breakouts herself. In fact, she claims she gets cystic acne but with that super clear complexion of hers, I didn't believe her. What's even more surprising than that is what she uses to banish pimples and blemishes. Want to take a guess? It's oil!

I've been hearing for quite some time now that oil is the best thing for your skin. But no matter how much beauty brands tried to push this theory, I couldn't believe it. How in the world was oil going to keep my oily/combination skin from breaking out? But the concept is pretty simple: Oil cuts oil. Plus, after seeing how it helped my friend's skin, I had to give it a chance. "My skin started clearing up almost immediately after switching my foamy facial wash for coconut oil," she told me. Facial oils aren't just great for acne, they also leave your skin looking like you've been hanging out at the spa all season. Here are five reasons why you NEED to start using oil on your face!

It clears acne: It took a while for me to wrap my head around the idea that oils are actually "good" for acne-prone skin. It wasn't until I tried it out for myself that I really started noticing a difference. But remember, not oils are the same. It you're looking for one to clear out breakouts, opt for an oil that contains a lightweight consistency like coconut oil.

It hydrates: Oils work wonders on dry skin. They hydrate like crazy and keep your skin smooth and soft. In fact, most of the time you don't even need to reapply. Try a botanical oil that's rich in antioxidants like, Josie Maran's 100 Percent Pure Argan Oil ($48), Marula's Pure Marula Facial Oil ($58) or even olive oil.

It prevents irritation: Apparently most beneficial oils can help prevent or soothe irritation caused by certain ingredients found in ant-aging products. Scared of retinol? Smooth on a facial oil whether it's argan or coconut right on top. It calms your skin and decreases inflammation. How amazing is that?

It smooths wrinkles: There's a reason why most skincare products and even foundations contain oils: Because oil doesn't just hydrate skin, it prevents water loss in your skin that can lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Just a few drops can make your face appear a lot plumper.

It helps your skin absorb better: My friend claims she always applies oil to her face before smoothing on cream, serum or even makeup. Apparently oil helps absorb ingredients like retinol, glycolic acid, and vitamin C deeper into your skin. So you'll get more out of your products by adding oil to your skincare routine!

It makes you glow: I'm not going to lie, since I started washing my face with coconut oil, I've noticed my complexion looks a lot more radiant than before. My skin looks even, smooth and glowy. I wonder if Jennifer Lopez uses facial oils ...
